In 2001, Peter Millar launched in Raleigh, North Carolina, with a single product: a cashmere quarter-zip. In the 25 years since, the business has evolved into one of the preeminent apparel brands in America today, with head-to-toe collections for men, women, and children, and a golf line with a particularly strong presence at country clubs nationwide.

To mark the occasion, Peter Millar is throwing it back to where it all began. Launched on September 17, The Heritage Cashmere Quarter-Zip is both a recreation—and a tribute—to that first foundational style. Made from 100-percent, 12-gauge jersey stich cashmere, it is available in a run of 25 different colors ranging from cool neutrals like Oslo Grey and Tumbleweed to popping shades like Fuchsia and Mint. In addition, each will have a limited-edition purple anniversary tag and the Roman numerals “XXV” hand-stitched at the hem. The full range of colors will be available exclusively at Peter Millar’s New York City flagship boutique at 645 Madison Avenue.
The style is a fitting choice to mark the brand milestone, and not only because it was Peter Millar’s original product. Decades later, the style still encapsulates what the brand stands for: quiet, well-made styles that remain wearable year after year, crafted by experienced artisans using the finest materials at hand. It’s an ethos that has served Peter Millar well, from the performance space on the fairway to the heights of luxury apparel with materials such as Italian leather, Sea Island cotton, and vicuña. The spirit runs through both the Crown Crafted collection, which aspires to the highest levels of fiber and finishing, and the Crown Sport line, which serves as a laboratory for performance-oriented fabric innovation.

As a golf-adjacent style, the cashmere quarter-zip embodies both sides of the Peter Millar business. Golf has been a major part of the brand from almost the very beginning, and today Peter Millar proudly serves as the official outfitter of both the United States Golf Association and The R&A, its Scotland-based international equivalent. In addition, Peter Millar has fostered a particularly deep bench of professional players who rely on its apparel on tour and is a long-standing supporter of First Tee and Evans Scholars, two of the sport’s premier charitable organizations.
The 25th anniversary also sees another milestone for Peter Millar—the opening of its 25th store at The Mall at Short Hills in New Jersey. This marks a rapid expansion since the opening of the first Peter Millar boutique in Southampton, New York, in 2011, and is yet another indicator of how warmly the brand has been embraced since its relatively recent introduction. And while 2026 is certainly a banner year for the brand, 2027 also holds promise with the opening of the first international Peter Millar store on New Bond Street in London.

From Raleigh to London in a little over 25 years is a remarkable feat for any clothier. But in the case of Peter Millar, it’s not a surprise, but rather, the reward of building a brand that’s never lost focus on the core mission of making comfortable, high-quality clothing that lasts—an ambition best embodied by that cashmere quarter-zip that started it all.
